Complete guide to choosing your professional welding gloves
What leather and lining make a welding glove durable?
Lining changes the comfort level. Unlined gloves suit light MIG work in summer, while a Kevlar or fleece lining is needed for extended stick welding or winter jobs, when jobsite temperatures drop below 0°C.
MIG, TIG or stick welding: which glove for which process?
MIG and stick welding generate more spatter and radiant heat. Premium 7 MIG and Steelworker gloves offer a 30 to 35 cm cuff and thicker leather to absorb sparks along the forearm.
Cut-resistant welding gloves: extra protection for the shop
This A4 level (ANSI/ISEA standard) resists cuts up to 4 times better than a standard glove, a real advantage for Canadian metal fabrication shops that combine cutting and welding at the same station.
How to pick the right size and extend the life of your gloves
To extend leather life, let gloves air-dry after use and avoid prolonged contact with moisture, which stiffens the fibers and reduces the flexibility needed to handle welding tools.
What welding glove for your process?
For TIG welding, opt for goat or lambskin gloves with a 25 to 30 cm cuff. They can withstand up to 100°C and offer the best dexterity in the group, ideal for precision work and thin sheets.
For MIG welding, cowhide gloves with Kevlar lining are more suitable. The cuff extends to 30-35 cm for resistance up to 100°C, with average dexterity suitable for general workshop use.
For shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), choose thick, reinforced cowhide gloves with a 35 cm or longer cuff. Heat resistance is increased, at the expense of lower dexterity, which is suitable for heavy-duty work and job sites exposed to high heat.
