First Use

Activating your new Dewalt cutting wheel:

1. Pre-installation visual inspection

Before use, inspect the grinding wheel for cracks or chips and check the condition of the packaging. Tap it: a clear sound indicates that it is intact. Never use a grinding wheel with any defect.

2. Correct installation on the grinder

Ensure the grinder is switched off and unplugged, then install the grinding wheel between the flanges, respecting the direction of rotation.

Tighten the nut without overtightening and check that the protector is correctly positioned.

3. No-load function test

Before cutting, run the grinder at full speed for 60 seconds in a clear area, staying out of the plane of rotation.

This test reveals any defects: stop immediately if you experience abnormal vibrations, noises or oscillations.

4. First test cut

Perform a test cut on a similar scrap piece, applying light and consistent pressure. This will help you adjust your angle and familiarize yourself with the performance before the final piece.

After each cutting session:

• Allow the grinding wheel to cool completely before storing the grinder – never force cooling with water or compressed air.

Precautions for Use

For your safety and the safety of your equipment:

Never exceed 6,600 RPM

The maximum speed is printed on the grinding wheel and must be strictly observed. Always check that your grinder does not exceed this limit. Exceeding this limit can cause the disc to shatter, resulting in serious injury.

Avoid excessive lateral pressure

Type 1 grinding wheels are designed for perpendicular cutting only. Any lateral pressure or attempt to grind/polish them may cause the disc to break. Always maintain a 90-degree angle to the surface.

Do not use on non-metallic materials

This grinding wheel is specifically designed for ferrous metals. Using it on concrete, masonry, wood, plastic, or non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper) may cause overloading, overheating, and premature disc breakage.

Wearing protective equipment is mandatory.

ANSI Z87.1+ safety glasses, hearing protection, cut-resistant and heat-resistant gloves, close-fitting clothing without dangling parts, and a dust mask are essential for every use. Sparks can travel up to 10 meters.

Keep the work area clear

Keep flammable materials at least 10 meters away. Cutting sparks can ignite paper, fabrics, gasoline, and solvents. Keep a fire extinguisher readily available on worksites. Work in well-ventilated areas to remove fumes and metal dust.

Secure the parts firmly

Never hold a workpiece by hand during cutting. Use a vise, clamp, or appropriate support. A poorly secured workpiece can be violently ejected or jam the cutting disc, causing dangerous kickback.

Complete stop before deposit

Never set down the grinder while the disc is still spinning. Wait until the motor has completely stopped. A spinning disc can bite into a surface and cause loss of control.

Storage Tips

Short-term storage (less than 6 months):

• Store in original packaging or in a dry, airtight container
• Store flat on a level surface, never on its side - prevents deformation
• Ideal temperature: 15-25°C, avoid sudden temperature changes
• Humidity level: maintain below 60% to prevent degradation of the abrasive binder
• Location: dry indoor workshop, away from direct sunlight

Long-term storage (more than 6 months):

• Place in airtight bags with silica gel desiccant packets
• Check monthly for absence of moisture, mold or rust on the metal center
• Perform a complete visual inspection before reuse after prolonged storage
• Respect the expiry date if indicated by the manufacturer (generally 3 years post-manufacture).

Winter storage in Quebec:

• Never store in an unheated trailer, uninsulated garage, or outdoor shed
• Avoid freezing: temperatures below 0°C can weaken the binder and cause micro-cracks.
• If winter storage is unavoidable in a cold area: wrap in insulating material, bring indoors before use
• Allow to gradually return to room temperature (4-6 hours) before use.

Shelf life with proper storage:Up to 3 years under optimal conditions. Discs exposed to excessive humidity, frost or high heat may lose structural properties even without use.

✅Material defects

Inferior quality of the materials used in the grinding wheel (abrasive grains, reinforcing fiberglass, resin binder). If the materials used do not meet Dewalt standards, they will be replaced.

✅Non-compliance with specifications

If the grinding wheel does not meet the advertised specifications (incorrect dimensions, non-compliant bore, maximum speed different from that indicated), Dewalt guarantees exact conformity to the published technical data sheet.

✅Abnormal performance not due to user error

If the grinding wheel does not perform according to expected standards in normal professional use and this is not attributable to misuse. Includes abnormal premature wear or unusual loss of cutting efficiency.

Warranty Exclusions

❌ The warranty does NOT cover:

❌Normal wear and tear

The natural, gradual wear of the abrasive during normal cutting is expected and is not a defect. Grinding wheels are consumables designed to wear gradually. A decrease in diameter and progressive thinning are normal.

❌Damage caused by misuse

Use at excessive speed, lateral pressure, cutting of unsuitable materials (concrete, wood, non-ferrous metals), or any use not in accordance with the instructions. Damage caused by improper cutting techniques.

❌Physical damage or impacts

Cracks, chips or breakage resulting from drops, impacts, blows or rough handling. Damage occurring during transport after receipt, or improper storage causing deterioration.

❌extreme storage conditions

Prolonged exposure to excessive humidity (>80%), frost, extreme heat (>40°C), and continuous direct sunlight. Degradation due to storage in an environment not conforming to recommendations.

❌Unauthorized modification or repair

Any attempt to modify the disc, sharpen it, or adjust its diameter or bore will immediately void the warranty. Use of the grinding wheel on improperly modified equipment is also prohibited.

❌Shelf life expiration

Grinding wheels stored for more than 3 years after manufacture may have lost their structural properties, even without use. The manufacturing date can be verified via codes on the wheel.
