Care and Usage

First Use

Before first use of your DCD806B:

  1. Visual inspection: Verify that the chuck rotates freely, the mode selector clicks into each position, and the red anti-rotation LED indicator is visible.
  2. Battery installation: Insert a charged DeWalt 20V MAX battery until it clicks. The DCB205 (5Ah) or DCB2104 provide best performance with this model.
  3. Anti-rotation system test: During first drilling, the system will activate if the bit binds. This is normal. The red LED confirms activation.
  4. Clutch adjustment: Use the 14 available positions. Start low for fastening, increase for drilling into hard materials.

Regular Maintenance

After each use:

  • Blow concrete dust from around the chuck and vents with low-pressure compressed air.
  • Wipe the housing with a dry cloth. Masonry residue is abrasive and accelerates wear.
  • Check chuck retention. If grip weakens, clean the internal jaws.
  • Remove the battery if the tool will not be used for more than 24 hours.

Monthly maintenance:

  • Inspect the belt hook and tighten screws as needed.
  • Test the anti-rotation system by creating slight resistance. The tool should cut if rotation is excessive.
  • Check the LED light in all 3 positions.

Safety Precautions

For your safety:

  • Hold the tool firmly: Despite the anti-rotation system, always maintain a firm two-hand grip when drilling into masonry.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves: Hammer mode projects concrete and brick fragments.
  • Avoid moisture: Do not drill into wet surfaces or expose the tool to rain.
  • Operating temperature: Functions between -20°C and 40°C. In Canadian winters, let the tool warm up before intensive use.

Storage Tips

Daily storage:

  • Store in a tool chest or bag, away from moisture.
  • Remove the drill bit from the chuck to preserve the jaws.

Winter storage in Canada:

  • Store where temperature stays above -20°C.
  • Remove battery and store at room temperature (15-25°C) with 30-50% charge.
  • Before spring use, complete a full charge cycle and test the anti-rotation at no load.

Frequently Asked Questions about the DeWalt DCD806B

What is the difference between the DCD806B and the DCD805B?

The DCD806B is the newer and more powerful model with 1,050 MWO (vs approximately 700 for the DCD805B), an exclusive anti-rotation system that cuts the motor during bit lock-ups, and a 14-position clutch. The DCD805B offers a dedicated driver mode that the DCD806B does not have.

What is the anti-rotation system on the DCD806B?

The anti-rotation system is a safety feature exclusive to the DCD806B. It detects excessive rotational motion (for example when a bit binds in concrete) and automatically shuts down the motor to protect your wrists. A red LED indicator lights up to confirm activation. The tool restarts normally afterward.

Is the DCD806B compatible with all DeWalt 20V batteries?

Yes. The DCD806B works with all DeWalt 20V MAX batteries: DCB205 (5Ah), DCB204 (4Ah), DCBP034 POWERSTACK (1.7Ah), DCB2104, and FlexVolt in 20V mode. For best performance (175 holes per charge), DeWalt recommends the DCB2104. The 5Ah DCB205 battery remains the versatile choice.

What is included with the DCD806B (bare tool)?

The DCD806B is sold as a bare tool. You receive the hammer drill and a belt hook. Battery and charger are sold separately. Browse our DeWalt 20V battery collection to complete your purchase.

Can the DCD806B drill into reinforced concrete?

The DCD806B excels in light concrete, brick, cinder block, and standard masonry at 34,000 BPM. For reinforced concrete or large-diameter holes (over 1/2 inch), an SDS rotary hammer is recommended. For standard residential and commercial anchors (3/16 to 3/8 inch), the DCD806B handles the job efficiently.

What warranty covers the DeWalt DCD806B?

The DCD806B is backed by DeWalt's 3-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects (including the anti-rotation system), plus 1 year of free service and a 90-day satisfaction guarantee. Équipement Industriel Polar adds its own 30-day return guarantee.

Does the DCD806B work in cold Canadian winters?

The tool operates down to -20°C without issues. The limiting factor is the lithium-ion battery, which loses capacity below -10°C. In winter, keep batteries warm (inside pocket, heated vehicle) and insert them just before use. The anti-rotation system remains fully functional in cold weather.
