Recommended Additional Accessories

Optimize your investment:

Care and Usage

First Use

Activating your new DeWalt batteries:

  1. Full initial chargeBefore first use, charge each battery until all 3 LEDs are continuously lit. This initial charge optimizes internal calibration and maximizes battery life. Allow approximately 90 minutes with a standard charger or 60 minutes with a fast charger.
  2. LED indicator check- Press the test button to confirm that all 3 lights are illuminated correctly. 3 lights indicate a full charge, 2 lights approximately 66 percent, and 1 light approximately 33 percent. Rapid flashing indicates a battery that is too hot or too cold.
  3. Test on a compatible tool- Install the battery onto a DeWalt 20V MAX tool by aligning the guide rails and pushing firmly until it clicks. Perform a few light operations to verify proper operation. The battery should lock securely without any play.
  4. Identification and labeling- To facilitate rotation, identify each battery with a permanent marker on the base. Note the commissioning date to track history and plan future replacements.

Regular Maintenance

To maximize the lifespan of your DeWalt batteries:

After each use:

  • Remove the battery from the tool if it will not be used for more than 15 minutes to prevent accidental discharge.
  • Wipe the charging contacts with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris
  • Visually inspect the casing for any cracks, deformations, or damage.
  • Allow to cool for 10 minutes before recharging if the battery is hot after heavy use. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before recharging if the battery is hot after intensive use.

Load management:

  • Recharge as soon as the LED indicator shows only one light on to preserve the cells.
  • Avoid repeated full discharges which reduce overall lifespan
  • Use only genuine DeWalt chargers certified for this series
  • Do not leave discharged batteries for more than 48 hours without recharging.

Recommended rotation:

  • Alternate the use of the 4 batteries to balance charging cycles
  • Number and use in sequence 1-2-3-4 for even wear
  • Check monthly performance by comparing the battery life of each unit

Cleaning and Maintenance

Deep monthly cleaning:

  1. Outdoor enclosureClean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid solvents, gasoline, or harsh cleaners that can damage plastic. Dry immediately with a clean cloth.
  2. Charging contacts- Use a white pencil eraser or soft anti-static brush to clean gold contacts. Remove greenish oxidation with 90 percent isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab. Dry for 5 minutes before use.
  3. Ventilation vents- Blow low-pressure compressed air into openings to dislodge accumulated sawdust and dust. Maintain a distance of 15 cm to avoid damaging internal components.
  4. Joint inspection- Check the integrity of the seal around the cover. Replace the battery if the seal is cracked, as moisture can penetrate and cause a short circuit.

Precautions for Use

For your safety:

  • Never remove the batteryOpening the casing exposes the cells to hazardous lithium-ion cells and voids the warranty. Pressurized cells can cause chemical burns if punctured.
  • Avoid repeated shocks and fallsAlthough the casing is reinforced, severe impacts will damage internal circuits. Drops from more than 2 meters onto a hard surface require professional inspection before reuse.
  • Do not expose to water or immersion- Batteries are splash-resistant, but immersion will cause a short circuit and a risk of fire. If wet, dry completely for 24 hours before charging.
  • Operating temperature respected- Operating outside the -20°C to 50°C range reduces performance and damages cells. In very cold weather, preheat batteries close to the body for 10 minutes before use.
  • Signs of failure to watch for- Stop using the battery if it swells, leaks, emits an odor, overheats (over 70°C to the touch), or if the LED indicators flash abnormally. Contact customer service immediately.

Storage Tips

Short-term storage (less than 2 weeks):

  • Keep the battery charged between 40 and 80 percent (2 LED lights on).
  • Ideal temperature 15 to 25°C in a dry place
  • Remove batteries from tools to prevent slow discharge.
  • Location sheltered from direct sunlight

Long-term storage (more than 2 weeks):

  • Charge to approximately 40 percent (1 to 2 LED lights) before storage
  • Store between 0 and 25°C with relative humidity below 60 percent
  • Recharge every 8 weeks to compensate for natural self-discharge
  • Check the charge level monthly via the LED test button.

Winter storage in Quebec:

  • Never leave in an unheated vehicle during winter
  • Temperatures below -10°C during prolonged storage damage lithium cells
  • Store in an insulated garage or basement at a temperature between 5 and 20°C
  • Before winter use, gradually warm to room temperature for at least 2 hours

With proper storage and care, these DeWalt batteries retain more than 80 percent of their original capacity after 5 years and 2000 charge-discharge cycles.
