Description

This Lincoln Electric MIG-Pak 180 welder combines gas-shielded MIG and gasless flux-core welding in one 208/230V unit.

Product Overview

The Lincoln MIG-Pak 180 suits farm projects, light fabrication and automotive work that need more power than a 120V welder. Its 208/230V supply welds thicker materials with a simplified two-knob control.

The fully adjustable wire drive system reduces tangling, while the brass-to-brass gun connection improves conductivity. A cast aluminum gearbox delivers quiet, durable operation.

  • 208/230V, 30 to 180A output
  • MIG (gas) and Innershield flux-core (gasless) processes
  • 24-gauge sheet up to 4.8 mm (3/16 in) in one pass
  • Steel up to 12.7 mm (1/2 in) with self-shielded wire
  • Cast aluminum gearbox, brass-to-brass connection

This versatile welder suits the farm, the fabrication shop or the auto garage, with a forgiving arc that starts smooth with minimal spatter. FREE SHIPPING $150+ across Canada.

Care and Usage

First Use

Follow these steps before your first weld:

  1. Choose your process: gas-shielded MIG for a clean finish, or gasless flux-core for outdoor work.
  2. Install the spool and nozzle matching your chosen process.
  3. Connect the gas regulator if using the gas-shielded MIG process.
  4. Run a test weld on scrap metal before starting your actual project.

Regular Maintenance

After each use:

  • Clean the nozzle and check the contact tip.
  • Close the gas cylinder if the MIG process was used.
  • Store the gun away from dust.

Wire management:

  • Store each spool in a dry place to prevent rust.
  • Label spools to avoid mixing up MIG and flux-core wire.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  1. Gearbox: periodically check the drive roll for wear.
  2. Cables and fittings: regularly inspect the gun's brass-to-brass connection.
  3. Ventilation: clean vents with compressed air to prevent overheating.

Safety Precautions

For your safety:

  • Welding helmet with proper shade required at all times.
  • Gas cylinder: always secure the cylinder firmly to prevent tipping.
  • Proper ventilation: never weld in an enclosed space without airflow.
  • Unplug: always unplug the unit before any maintenance.

Storage Tips

Short-term storage:

  • Dry location, between 5°C and 40°C.

Winter storage in Canada:

  • Store the gas cylinder upright, away from heat sources.
  • Let the welder return to room temperature after cold transport before use.

Frequently asked questions about the MIG-Pak 180

What steel thickness can the MIG-Pak 180 weld?

In a single pass, up to 4.8 mm (3/16 in) of 24-gauge sheet. With Innershield self-shielded wire, steel up to 12.7 mm (1/2 in) becomes accessible.

What's the difference between MIG and flux-core on this welder?

MIG uses shielding gas (Ar/CO2 or CO2) and solid wire for a clean finish on thin sheet. Innershield flux-core wire needs no gas, an advantage for welding outdoors or on thicker steel.

Does this welder run on a standard 120V outlet?

No, the MIG-Pak 180 requires a 208/230V power supply. For a 120V welder, the Weld-Pak 90i FC is a lighter alternative at Équipement Industriel Polar.

What's included in the box?

The welder ships with a Magnum 100L gun, contact tips, a MIG nozzle and a flux-core nozzle, a gas regulator, sample spools of both wire types, a ground clamp and a learning DVD. See our welding gloves, sold separately.

What warranty comes with this welder?

Lincoln Electric offers a manufacturer's limited warranty covering manufacturing defects. Équipement Industriel Polar adds a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.

Can the MIG-Pak 180 weld aluminum?

The welder can weld thin aluminum sheet using the gas-shielded MIG process with argon. A separate spool gun kit is required for aluminum, available as an option from Lincoln Electric.

How much gas do I need for this welder?

The gas cylinder isn't included, only the regulator and hose. A standard Ar/CO2 or CO2 cylinder, available from most industrial gas suppliers, completes the setup for the MIG process.
