Description
Description
Solar Flux is a complex chemical compound in the form of a very fine powder. It is mixed with alcohol (preferably methanol) and applied with a brush to the weld joint. Its formulation protects the back of the weld joint from oxygen, dissipates heat and unwanted oxides, and cleans the metal surface. It facilitates the flow of filler metal over the base metal and forms a protective barrier against reoxidation and scale formation.
Type B is used for stainless steel (except 309 and 310), structurally hardened steels, chromium-molybdenum steels, and other alloy steels with a nickel content of less than 25%. Type B is an economical alternative to purging.
Features :
Protects the back of the weld joint from oxidation.
Cleans the weld surface.
Facilitates the penetration of the filler metal into the base metal.
A 60g (2oz) mix will make 25m of joint, or 280m per pot.
Mixing ratio: 184 g (6.5 oz) of methanol to 454 g (1 lb) of powder.
You can use isopropyl alcohol, available at your hardware store, to make the mixture.
Much more economical than gas purging.
Produces seals of radiographic quality.
