First Use

Before first using your DHP482Z:

1. Visual inspection: Check that the chuck turns freely and that the torque adjustment ring (21 positions) clicks correctly into each setting.
2. Battery installation: Insert a charged Makita 18V LXT battery until it clicks into place.
3. No-load test: Pull the trigger in both speeds to confirm proper motor operation and dual LED function.
4. Torque setting: Start with a low setting for driving, increase based on material resistance, then switch to hammer mode for masonry.

Regular Maintenance

After each use:

• Blow out dust accumulated around the chuck and vents with low-pressure compressed air, despite the XPT protection.
• Wipe the housing with a dry cloth.
• Check that the keyless chuck holds bits firmly.
• Remove the battery if the tool won't be used for more than 24 hours.

Monthly maintenance:

• Inspect the rubberized grip for signs of wear or peeling.
• Check that the metal gears show no abnormal play.
• Test the dual LED light to confirm proper function.

Safety Precautions

For your safety:

• Never force the tool: If the drill slows down in masonry, let hammer mode do the work instead of applying more pressure.
• Wear safety glasses: Hammer mode throws material debris at high speed.
• Avoid excessive moisture: XPT technology protects against splashes, but the tool is not designed for immersion.
• Respect torque settings: A setting too high for delicate driving can damage the fastener or material.

Storage Tips

Daily storage:

• Store in a case or tool bag, away from moisture and dust.
• Remove the bit from the chuck between extended uses.

Winter storage in Canada:

• Remove the battery and store it at room temperature, never in an unheated vehicle. Cold temporarily reduces lithium-ion runtime.
• Let the tool and battery return to room temperature before charging or heavy use after cold transport.

What Is Covered
