First Use

Activating your new ZEP 45 Penetrating Lubricant:

1. Aerosol preparation

Shake the can vigorously for 10-15 seconds before each use. This step ensures even distribution of the PTFE and active ingredients in the formula.

2. Spray test

Perform a test on a test area or cloth to check that the nozzle is functioning correctly and that the pressure is adequate. Hold the can upright, 15-20 cm from the target surface.

3. Pre-cleaning of surfaces

For best results, remove excess dirt, mud, or debris with a wire brush or cloth. The product penetrates better on surfaces free of coarse contaminants. For heavily soiled parts, first use an industrial degreaser.

4. First application

Spray generously onto the area to be treated. For seized parts, leave for a minimum of 5-10 minutes to allow for complete penetration. Tap lightly with a rubber mallet to facilitate product infiltration.

Regular Maintenance

To maximize the lifespan of your ZEP 45 Penetrating Lubricant:

After each use:

• Briefly turn the can upside down and spray for 1-2 seconds to clean the nozzle and prevent clogging.
• Wipe the nozzle with a clean cloth if product buildup is visible.
• Replace the protective cap to preserve the spray mechanism

Aerosol storage:

• Store upright in a cool, dry place at a temperature between 5°C and 30°C
• Keep away from direct heat sources, open flames, or spark-generating equipment.
• Avoid prolonged sun exposure, which can increase internal pressure

Periodic verification:

• Test the aerosol pressure monthly if used infrequently
• Replace the can if the spray becomes uneven or weak despite shaking.
• Note the opening date on the can to track the product's shelf life.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Deep monthly cleaning:

Spray nozzle:

Remove the nozzle and soak it for 15 minutes in a mild solvent if it is partially blocked. Rinse with warm water, dry completely, and reassemble. Never use sharp objects to unblock it, as this will damage the mechanism.

Internal dip tube:

If the flow rate becomes very low despite a full can, the tube may be partially blocked. Shake vigorously while holding the can at different angles and then test. If the problem persists, transferring to a new container is not recommended for safety reasons.

Treated surfaces:

Wipe off excess product from adjacent non-metallic surfaces such as sensitive plastics, fresh paint, or soft rubber. ZEP 45 is safe on most materials, but excess may leave a greasy film.

Precautions for Use

For your safety:

Ventilation required

Always use in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. Hydrocarbon vapors can cause dizziness if inhaled in high concentrations in a confined space.

Eye and skin protection

Wear safety glasses when spraying upwards or in confined spaces to avoid eye contact. In case of prolonged skin contact, wash with soap and water.

Keep away from sources of ignition

Extremely flammable aerosol. Never use near flames, hot surfaces above 50°C, active welding equipment or areas where static electricity occurs.

Not recommended for some applications

Avoid use on brakes, clutches, or surfaces requiring maximum friction. Do not apply to clear polycarbonate or expanded polystyrene plastics, which can be damaged by solvents.

Handling of pressurized containers

Never puncture the bomb, even when empty. Do not throw into a fire. Internal pressure can cause an explosion if the bomb is overheated or damaged.

Storage Tips

Short-term storage (less than 6 months):

• Ideal ambient temperature between 15°C and 25°C
• Vertical position in toolbox or workshop cabinet
• Away from windows exposed to direct sunlight
• Cap securely in place to prevent partial evaporation

Long-term storage (more than 6 months):

• Same conditions as short term but check bomb integrity every 2-3 months
• Shake periodically to prevent separation of components
• Test pressure before use after prolonged storage
• If stored for more than 2 years, perform a complete test before critical use

Winter storage in Quebec:

• Avoid unheated garages where temperatures regularly drop below -10°C.
• Gel can affect viscosity and reduce spraying efficiency
• If cold storage is unavoidable, warm the can to room temperature 2-3 hours before use.
• Never heat directly with a heat source

Expected lifespan:3-4 years with proper storage. Beyond that, the effectiveness of PTFE and active agents may decrease even if the product is still spraying.

What Is Covered

The ZEP and Polar Industrial Equipment limited warranty covers:

Manufacturing defects

Any manufacturing defect affecting the normal operation of the aerosol, including defective valve, non-functional nozzle or broken dip tube, upon receipt of the product.

Material defects

Problems related to product formulation such as abnormal separation of components, absence of PTFE in the formula or inadequate concentration of active agents not meeting ZEP specifications.

Container damaged upon receipt

Aerosol dented, punctured, or leaking upon delivery, rendering the product unusable or dangerous. Can arriving with insufficient or no pressure, having not been used.

Non-compliant performance

Product does not penetrate as specified, does not offer the promised corrosion protection or does not operate within the advertised temperature range of -45°C to +245°C.

Warranty Exclusions

The warranty does NOT cover:

❌ Normal wear and tear

Natural depletion of the aerosol contents with regular use. Gradual decrease in pressure towards the end of the product's shelf life. Partial evaporation if the cap is repeatedly left open.

❌ Product misuse

Damage caused by improper storage in extreme temperatures, prolonged exposure to sunlight, or proximity to heat sources. Use on applications not recommended by the manufacturer. Attempting to puncture, modify, or refill the can.

❌ Physical damage and negligence

Dents, perforations, or leaks caused by dropping, impact, or rough handling after receipt. Nozzle obstruction by foreign objects or cleaning with sharp objects. Product contamination by the introduction of external substances.

❌ Extreme storage conditions

Exposure to repeated freezing below -30°C or excessive heat above 50°C for prolonged periods. Storage in humid environments causing external corrosion of the can. Storage beyond the recommended shelf life of 3-4 years.

❌ Damage caused to property or surfaces

The warranty covers only the ZEP 45 product itself, not any damage it may cause to equipment, surfaces, clothing, or other property during use. Users are responsible for testing compatibility in a small area first.

❌ Variable application results

Performance depends on external factors such as rust level, metal type, ambient temperature during application, or insufficient contact time. ZEP guarantees product quality, not results under all possible conditions.

Complaint Procedure

How to file a claim in 3 steps:

Step 1: Documentation and preparation

Keep your original Polar Industrial Equipment purchase invoice. Take clear photos of the defective product showing the lot number on the can. Note the purchase date, a precise description of the problem, and storage conditions if applicable. Prepare the defective can for possible inspection.
